Glass fibres are a great addition to any concrete mix, offering strength and reducing the weight of the finished piece by up to 75%. Glass fibres also allow concrete to be cast much thinner than solid wet-cast concrete, and their addition creates a mix that is easy to work with and formable.
Our glass fibres are available by kilogram. We recommend 3% of the total weight of your mix should be added to glass fibres.
The durability of the alkali-resistant (AR) glass fibre reinforced concrete (GFRC) in three simulated aggressive environments, namely tropical climate, cyclic air and seawater and seawater immersion was investigated. Durability examinations include chloride diffusion, gas permeability, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy examination (SEM).
The fibre content is in the range of 0.6 % to 2.4 %. Results reveal that the specimen containing the highest AR glass fibre content suffered severe strength loss in a seawater environment and relatively milder strength loss under cyclic conditions.
